Halloween, along with many holidays, changes as our kids get older. Gone are the days of looking at every store for the latest popular character costume and their enthusiasm for carving pumpkins might not be what it used to be. But even though some traditions may be coming to an end, there’s still plenty of fun to be had by teens and parents on October 31st!
It’s a little sad when your older kid finally decides it’s time to turn in the trick or treat bag, but that doesn’t have to mean the end to celebrating Halloween.
There are still tons of spooky tween activities and teen activities that are appropriate for scaring up a good time on Halloween night. One new trend that is gaining in popularity with teens and tweens is a Halloween Photo Scavenger Hunt. This is great for a neighborhood, school or church to organize and can include parent drivers or as they get older the kids can drive themselves and parents can just coordinate.
How to Host a Halloween Photo Scavenger Hunt for Teens
Invite a bunch of your tween or teen’s friends or or organize some neighborhood kids and divide them into teams. Make sure at least one tween/teen on the team has a cell phone (guessing this won’t be a problem). Another fun option to use for a Halloween Photo Scavenger Hunt instead of a cell phone camera is one of the polaroid cameras that many tweens and teens have rediscovered.
Make sure they each come up with a team name. The crazier the better. Then go over the rules.
The rules are simple:
- stay with your team
- be polite and courteous to everyone you meet
- snap a picture to complete each category
- meet back at homebase at the designated time
- HAVE FUN!
I’d also suggest setting neighborhood boundaries and deciding whether or not this will all be done on foot or you’ll have a driver.
