Not sure which of your middle schooler's personality will be sitting at the breakfast table with you this morning? Welcome to the joy of puberty! This stage of parenting tweens and teens can be particularly difficult with the unpredictability that hormones suddenly throw into the mix. The best thing parents can do is be as honest as possible with their tweens and young teens, talk with them when they're ready and more than anything let them know it's all a normal part of growing up.
Part of what makes middle school such a particularly unpredictable and challenging time for parenting is the beginnings of puberty. We go from having sweet kids to moody tweens almost overnight. Their emotions are everywhere, girls are getting periods and boys are starting to find their voices cracking and they are both needing to learn all sorts of new personal hygiene habits. Helping our middle schoolers manage all the crazy hormones and the confusion and sometimes embarrassment that comes with it all is never easy. But the more we know the better we can support them through this middle school years
