Connecting with Teens
If you can maintain and grow your connection with your teen through adolescence, you're more likely to have a strong, close relationship in the adult years. It takes patience, grace, and a lot of hard work, but it's worth it.
Connecting with your teens can be challenging, but time spent with them can make a difference in your relationship. We get it though. Teens don’t always make it easy for us.
That’s why you must change your mindset a bit and remember that it’s all about THEM if you want to connect with your teen. How you’re spending that time or even where you’re spending that time shouldn’t really matter. Take advantage of any opportunity presented and then be willing to let them do the choosing. Stay available by hanging out in common areas of the house or keeping your door open. Always ask if they want to join you even if you know the answer will probably be no. You might be surprised that there is often common ground to be found with choices you both will enjoy.
