What used to be a sacred weekly family tradition has been slowly dying off in recent years – Family Game Night! Bringing back board games may be the only good thing the Pandemic years, and it is a sure cure for parents looking for fun ways to reconnect with their teens.
Families everywhere seem to think that when their kids reach a certain age, they are too old for games?! This is simply just crazy talk. In fact, there will never be a time in their lives when family game night is more important than the teenage years.
Board and other more action-oriented games can bring us closer to our relatives and also strengthen friendships. And nothing is better than bringing a group together to compete in some party games.
It can be tough to pull your teen/tween away from their screens, but these idea are all tested and proven for some fun!
Top 15 Games that We Know Teens Love

First to Worst
This game is hysterical and was a huge hit with our kids. They played it with us, but also played it with their friends. In this fun collaborative game, players try to get into each others’ heads by guessing how fellow players rank a wide variety of interesting topics. Pineapple on Pizza? Country Music? Cat Videos? There are almost 300 topics in the game! The Ranker secretly ranks five random things from 1 to 5. Then, as a team, the rest of the players now try to guess the exact order chosen by THE RANKER. Get more right than wrong to WIN the game! You’ll be shocked by what you learn!

Bounce Battle
Bounce Battle Game is a game that uses ping pong balls and has dozens of battle styles, including 3D Tic-Tac-Toe, Nine Cup, Level Out, Point Ball, Alphabet Soup, and H-O-R-S-E (trick shot). It can be played multiplayer, 1-on-1, teams, or tournament style. The game is easy to learn and quick to play. We had a family tournament during the summer (but be warned, the 21+ crowd may turn this into a different type of game!)

Clue Conspiracy
This game is so much fun, and you get to lie, bluff and sabotage your way through it. Players play as Clue characters and take on secret roles on opposing teams: Friends vs. the Conspiracy. Friends try to keep Mr. Coral alive, while Conspiracy members secretly try to set up his murder.

BucketBall
We discovered this game at the beach, but it is now our family’s favorite. We’ve played it at grad parties, vacations, in our basement on cold winter nights, and on slow Sunday afternoons. Anyone can play and you will see their competitive streak come out!

7 Wonders
Consistently ranked as one of the best board games in existence for many years running, this strategic game makes you the leader of one of the seven greatest cities of the Ancient World. Gather resources, develop commercial routes and affirm your military supremacy. Build your city and erect an architectural wonder which will transcend future times. Takes 30 minutes.

PopDarts
We found this game by accident last year, but it’s now a family favorite. We take it wherever we are because it’s lightweight and portable. Just set up the orange target marker and then whoever gets the closest scores 3 points. Every other target that sticks is 1 point. Whoever gets to 21 first wins.

What Do You Meme
17k 5-star reviews can’t be wrong! This game is so simple but so much fun. This is the family edition so good for kids 8-12, but there are other, more mature, version. Compete with friends and family to create the funniest memes. Choose your best caption card to describe the photo card for each round. A rotating judge picks their favorite combination.

Hookey
Made popular in Australia, it’s like darts, but without ruining your walls or worrying someone may get stabbed. Hours of fun for the whole family.

WingSpan
For those who like a true strategy board game, you’ll like WingSpan. You are bird researchers, watchers, ornithologists, and collectors seeking to discover and attract the best birds to your network of wildlife preserves. But being strategic in your bird habitats is key to winning and it takes more skill than one might think to cultivate the right flock.

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza
I’ve played this game so many times (even with my mom friends) and it always makes me laugh. This fast-paced, laugh-out-loud party game challenges players to race against each other in a hilarious test of reflexes, timing, and memory. Players take turns placing cards while reciting the game’s quirky name in order—when a spoken word matches the card, everyone scrambles to slap the pile. The last one to react takes the stack, and the first to run out of cards wins.

Villainous
This game lets you embrace your inner villain in a variety of ways (there is a Disney version, Marvel, etc.) but our fave is Star Wars. Master the art of deception and connect with your inner villain as you
navigate the Star Wars galaxy with cunning tactics to outsmart your opponents utilizing critical thinking, problem solving and memorization skills.

Relative Insanity
This is one of the best games I’ve played in a long time. Play is simple: One player reads a set up card, like ‘While walking past my sister’s bedroom, I heard her say…’ and then other players choose a punch line card to fill in the blank, hoping the reader will pick theirs as the best.

Taco Vs. Burrito
TikTok famous and a huge hit with the tween crowd, this game is great for a holiday gathering where you have multiple age ranges. Super simple to learn but competitive enough to get the most surly adolescent to laugh.

Left Center Right
Every house needs this game. It is an ice breaker like none other. The tin is the size of a deck of cards, making it easy to throw in a purse, bag, or backpack. Pull it out when you’re in a group with some downtime and watch the fun spread as more and more people join in. You can play with the included tokens, but it’s a lot more fun to play with candy, quarters or even dollar bills. Whatever ante item you start with, you just need 3 of them. And you need at least 4 players for the most fun (you *could* play with 3 but it’s over too quickly.)
The concept is simple enough for elementary children to understand, but exciting enough for even boring grownups to want to play. You just roll and do what the dice say. Give a token to your left, right, or put it in the center and watch the excitement buid.

Moose Master
This is a fun game to play with friends, family, and coworkers. The nature of the game’s flexible rules means it can be simple enough for younger players to grasp easily or it can be more complex for a wittier or more chaotic crowd. The game is perfectly family-friendly or work-safe, but just as easily works as a rowdier game for those so inclined.

Another I have come across recently is TRIVE. It is a teaching exercise disguised as a game. At a time when our society is being pulled apart it offers a new and unique way of bringing people together. This is especially valuable in situations where parents are anxious about a developing separation within their family; perhaps experiencing an unsettled teenager, a high school graduate who is not communicating, or a college student who is struggling to select a major.
The game places parents and young adults on par with each other, opening and encouraging valuable dialogue that can over time establish a foundation to great achievements for all participants.
